Use your SEAT BELT and require your passengers to use theirs!
Allow extra room between cars
Let others know your intentions
Leave yourself an out
Obey all traffic laws
Anticipate what others may do
#4 Develop a good Attitude
Give people the benefit of the doubt
Develop calm behaviors
Be patient and courteous
Don’t cut people off, blast your horn or brake check other drivers
#5 Never Tailgate
Tailgaters don’t have enough time to react to sudden maneuvers made by the vehicle in front of them
Pressuring others to go faster by tailgating just causes stress for other drivers
#6 Don’t Drive too fast
Never use thrill seeking behaviors behind the wheel
Keep within the posted speed limit
Don’t take turns too fast
Keep a constant speed….no jackrabbit starts or sudden stops
#7 Perfect your driving skills
Perfect practice makes all the difference
Look in all directions before moving anywhere…check, check, and check again
Leave yourself an out
Let others know what you intend to do
Always wear your safety belt
Allow extra room in between cars for human error

Allow even more space and time to drive safely
Use tires with good tread
Know how to use your brakes (antilock). Remember you do not have to pump antilock brakes
Give yourself extra time to get where you are going

After about 6 months of driving you will feel like you have everything down. Be mindful that just when you think you have it all down you start forgetting to do the little things. Those drivers that continue to do the little things and drive defensively are in fewer crashes.

Seat belts!!
Loud and distracting passengers cause the driver to be distracted
Drinking and other drug use can cause the driver to be distracted
